Cross Country Opens Season at MA
The Prattville High School cross country teams opened their season at the MA-Zing Dash held at Montgomery Academy. Both the boys and girls teams participated in a 100-minute race, where each team consisted of five runners completing 800-meter sprints before passing the baton with the goal of completing as many laps as possible as a team.
The boys' Team A secured 2nd place with a total of 36 laps, featuring runners Jonathan Woodley, Kayden Thomas, and Antonio Rowland. The boys' Team B finished in 3rd place, completing 32 laps with contributions from Ryder Toulmin, Nathan Carpenter, and Robert Laubauch. On the girls' side, Team A also claimed 2nd place, finishing with 22 laps. The team included Nimue Craig, Lily Downey, Lydia Donahue, Gracelyn Gholston, and Drema Dunlap.
“I’m really proud of the competitiveness that came out of each of our runners during this event,” said Coach Campbell. “Every single one of them fought against the adversity of the humidity and heat, and proved themselves in front of several of our River Region competition. We were specifically noticed by the race commentator for our sprint to the finish line, and that makes me really proud because that is something that we have been working really hard on during our summer practices. Looking forward to see what this young, but scrappy team will do this season.”
The teams will next compete at the MA Montgomery Trailblazer on August 29th, where they aim to build on their early success and continue their development throughout the season.
