eSports Now Offered at Prattville High School
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Prattville, AL – September 21, 2026 – Prattville High School Takes Competition Into a New Arena with Launch of Esports Program
Prattville High School is expanding its athletic offerings this spring with the addition of a new Esports program, providing students with another opportunity to compete, develop skills, and represent the Lions. The new program will be led by Coach Isabella Giles, a lifelong gamer with both academic and coaching experience in the Esports community. Giles minored in Game Studies and Design in college and previously served as an assistant coach for the Pelham High School Esports team. Giles will oversee the development of Prattville High School's Esports program as it prepares to begin competition this spring with the following options for gaming: Splatoon 3, Marvel Rivals, Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Kart 8, Madden NFL, and Rocket League. The program will provide students with an organized, competitive environment while emphasizing teamwork, communication, strategy, problem-solving and sportsmanship.
“Many of my current friends were made through gaming in college,” says Giles. “There’s such a strong camaraderie about being able to play with my friends no matter the distance between us. Esports also offers a competitive outlet to such a broad range of people, and I feel like there’s something so inclusive about that.”
Prattville High School Principal Dr. Daniel Farris expressed, “I am very excited to be starting an Esports team. We have had some interest from students the last few years but we have not had the expertise on our campus to be the right person for coaching. We are ecstatic to have Mrs. Giles fill this role. Her excitement of wanting to start the team excites us and we cannot wait to see our students thrive with this new opportunity on our campus.”
Athletic Director Blake Boren mirrored Dr. Farris’s excitement: “This is a tremendous opportunity for our students and another step forward for our athletic department. Esports continues to grow rapidly at both the high school and collegiate levels, including scholarship opportunities for student-athletes. Dr. Farris and I have discussed this initiative throughout my three-year tenure, and we simply needed the right leader to help us launch it. We believe that Coach Giles is the right person to build this program, and we look forward to watching our student-athletes represent Prattville beginning in the spring of 2027.
Students interested in participating in Prattville High School Esports can find additional information regarding tryouts, registration, and informational meeting dates through the Prattville High School Athletics Department.
